The symptoms are often unmistakable. Red, itchy, watery eyes accompanied by a discharge and blurry vision. Not so pleasant to talk about, and, we know, even less pleasant to experience. Don’t worry. Eye infections are a frequent occurrence and almost everyone has suffered one at some time in their life. If you wear contact lenses, you’re even more susceptible.

As with other infections, eye infections are caused by either bacteria or viruses. If you notice the symptoms of an eye infection, it’s important to seek treatment as soon as possible. Though most infections aren’t cause for serious concern, the symptoms can  be irritating, disrupt your daily life, and, most likely, the infection is highly contagious. Our Doctors treat common eye infections, including but not limited to:

  • Styes
  • Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
  • Ocular Herpes
  • Blepharitis (Eyelid Inflammation)

Eye Infection Treatment and Prevention

Treatment for most eye infections is as simple and straight forward as antibiotics, antiviral eye drops, or prescription oral medication. If a viral infection is accompanied by swelling, it may also require steroid eye drops to reduce the inflammation. The most potent weapon in preventing infection is avoiding contact with your eyes until you wash your hands.
